A Big Thanks!!

A huge THANK YOU!! to two of my picture book blogging buddies:

Beth Stilborn and Joanna Marple!

Joanna gave me the Liebster Blog Award, and Beth gave me the Kreativ Blogger Award! I feel quite honored to have been recognized by these two ladies whom I admire a great deal. I learn something new each time I read their posts. Their writing is thoughtful and authentic. I feel we are becoming great friends even though we live thousands of miles apart! I am blessed to have met Beth and Joanna and all of the lovely people who are part of PiBoIdMo, Perfect Picture Book Friday, and 12×12.

I’m not sure how this works…I think I am supposed to list five things about myself for the Liebster Award and ten for the Kreativ Blogger Award… Hmmmm…I’ll be good to come up with ten!

1. I was adopted at birth, and I couldn’t have asked for better parents. I am blessed.

2. I am left-handed.  I am always surprised when people say, “Oh, you’re left-handed!” like it is something unusual…

3. I danced on a drill team in high school. I could practically kick my nose! (Wish I was still that flexible)

4. When I was a little girl I could not pronounce the letter “F.” On my fourth birthday my uncle asked me how old I was and I replied, “Well, I can’t say door, so I guess I’ll have to be dive!” (Heard that one for many, many years!! 🙂 )

5. I met my husband at my best friend’s wedding!

6. I can Texas two-step and jitterbug like mad 🙂

7. My favorite musical is Camelot.  When I was little we listened to that 8-track over and over again in the car. My mother took me to see the live performance in Houston several years ago and it took my breath away.

8. My favorite place on Earth is Palo Duro Canyon in the Texas Panhandle. When I am there I feel at peace.

9. I can snowboard but not snow ski.

10. I once entered a mosh pit at a Metallica concert. I don’t recommend it.

So there you have it folks! A few things that make me unique!

I would like to recognize the following ladies who have faithfully followed my blog since its inception. I always look forward to and appreciate their thoughtful comments! I hereby bestow on you both the Liebster and the Kreativ Blogger Awards! How’s that for breaking all the rules?!!

  1. Congrats on the awards, Kelly! They are richly deserved 🙂 And thank you so much for passing them on to me – I am truly honored! I love your blog and enjoy reading all your posts. Your wealth of knowledge in the area of children’s books is a treasure for all of us. I loved reading your 10 facts – I am adopted too 🙂

  2. I just love reading these tidbits about people — I feel I’ve come to know you even better in just a few minutes! And yes, I, too, feel that we’ve become friends despite the miles between us.

Mmmm, I, too, love Camelot. Which soundtrack did you have? The Julie Andrews Broadway version or the Vanessa Redgrave film version?

  3. Congratulations Kelly. I couldn’t believe that we both got the award and released our answers within a few minutes of each other. Mine popped up first in my e-mail followed by yours. I wished you had released first, because I would have combined the awards that both you and Erik gave me. I did anyways, but after the fact. I love Camelot — both versions. And, my husband and I adopted two children, a daughter locally and an older son from India. They are adults now. Thank you for nominating me. People have learned more things about me as I received both the Liebster and Kreativ awards a day a part.

  4. Congrats, Kelly! I always look forward to your PPBF selections. And Camelot! Back in the 80s, HBO showed the Winter Garden revival of Camelot with Richard Harris and Meg Bussert, and I watched it over and over and over and over. I had that thing memorized, and even held a microphone up to the TV to capture it all on cassette tape, haha. I like to sing “C’est Moi” and “St. Genevieve” while I cook — I won’t be bought and bargained for like beads in a bazaar!

  5. Kelly, #1 made me want to sing and dance. Yay for wonderful adoptive parents! I get excited every time I click on your PPBF entry!

I have to join the Camelot lovers too. i guess if we ever all meet up we know what we can sing together. I do love musicals in general, though!

Congrats Kelly! And thank you. It is lovely getting to know you better. I can’t imagine you in a mosh pit. I’ve done a bit of head banging in my time lol.

  7. I laughed at your “door and dive” remark. I have a son who is “door.” The joke lives on. Great to get to know you better and congrats!

  8. I had no idea you were adopted! I want to talk with you more about this.

  9. It’s fun getting to learn more about you Like Joanna I love to see you PPBF entry. Thank you for the award.

  10. Congratulations on the award Kelly, gosh I have been bad in not passing by your blog lately. Loved hearing more about you. I love Camelot to and have the CD copy. I am a fan of Julie Andrews and met her twice….lol. Such a cheerful blog.
